BAND STAFF

Mr. Freeman is a Fairfax County Public Schools alumnus, graduating from W.T. Woodson High School. He graduated from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in 2018 as a Founders Scholar, with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a minor in Conducting. During his time as an undergraduate, Mr. Freeman studied trumpet with Edmund Cord and Marie Speziale. While at Indiana, Mr. Freeman played under multiple directors, including American Bandmasters Association member Stephen Pratt. In 2013, Mr. Freeman won a prestigious Jacobs School of Music award, the Frederick C. Ebbs Memorial Scholarship Fund, for music education majors with the potential to become outstanding band directors. After graduating from Indiana, Mr. Freeman started teaching in Fairfax County. He began teaching at Poe Middle School and then returned to Woodson in 2020, where he worked with all three concert bands, marching band, jazz band, and color guard programs as the assistant band director. While teaching, Mr. Freeman completed his Master’s Degree at George Mason University, studying under Dennis Edelbrock. He graduated in May of 2022 with a Master’s in Music in Trumpet Performance. During his time at Woodson High School, he helped achieve straight Superior Ratings at both the marching and concert assessments. The program attended the Regional Music for All Festival in 2022 and was recognized for its musical accomplishments at the School Board meeting in June 2022.
