Tues-Thurs, September 4-6: After school rehearsal at FHS, 3:30-6pm

  • There will be an early dismissal on Thursday for Back to School night – details to come

Friday, September 7: Home Football game vs. Robert E. Lee, 5:45pm report time

Saturday, September 8: Tag Day Fundraiser, 8:30am-3pm

I’m so proud of this band. Multiple people told me that it was like being at a college game: the atmosphere, the engagement, the constant playing and interacting with the game. One said, “This is what Fairfax was missing.”

By far, my favorite moment of the evening: After the lightning led to the calling of the rest of the game, a gentleman came up to me, and thanked us for everything. He said his entire family had served in the military, and it was a special moment hearing all of the services represented in our pre-game. It gave him a chance to think of them, and he thanked me (us) for helping him remember.

You never know what is going to move someone. We can only do our best to put something good, something beautiful, something sincere out into the world. This is our blessing and our responsibility.

We have plenty of work to do! Enjoy your weekend, look over the show and pre-game music, reflect on what the challenges were with our performance, what you (individually) can do to plug the gaps, and come back ready to do better! Let’s maximize our opportunity to MOVE people!

Second Home Game:

Home Football game vs. Robert E. Lee

Friday, September 7 5:45pm report time.  Summer uniform.

Tag Day Fundraiser:

Tag Day is Saturday, September 8, 2018, from 9am-3pm.  (Students and Drivers arrive at 8:30 am). Students meet in the choir room; Drivers meet in the band room.

Biggest fundraiser of the year with money used to purchase instruments and other band equipment, support band trips, replace or repair marching band uniforms & concert attire, and provide transportation to competitions

Mandatory participation of all band members - Symphonic, Wind Ensemble, Percussion, Guard

Full uniform (not hats/plumes or gloves.)  If raining we will be wearing ponchos over the full uniform.  The students go door to door within the Fairfax High School Community asking for donations to support the band program

Need 30 parent volunteers to drive 150 students around the neighborhoods. Students sign up in groups of 4 in the band room.

Drivers will be provided with a map of the neighborhood/streets to visit. If you would like to drive your own student or visit your own neighborhood, we will try to work it out- just note it on the SUG.

Drivers take the students to lunch (with money the students bring). Freddy’s is offering Tag Day participants a 10% discount. If you are close, please stop in for lunch! Just let them know you are with the band! Thanks Redlers!

Please visit the Sign Up Genius website to volunteer to drive.

Email Courtney Ashmore at with any questions.

Volunteers Needed

The Marching Rebels perform at half-time at the home football games on Fridays & at 4 competitions on Saturdays. Many volunteers are needed & there are a variety of volunteer gigs to suit your schedule, personality, & skills. We’ve created this MB Season Sign Up Genius (SUG) which covers all the football games for the 2018 season in chronological order. Yes, it’s a long list, but please look through the SUG to see if there is a volunteer slot or donation that suits you.

If you are interested in volunteering, but not sure which job you’d enjoy, please email or call me with your questions. Are you a rookie parent? There are many veteran parents who will show you the way. Please check out the SUG to see how you might fit in to help the band. Questions? Contact V.P. Volunteers Debbie Bermudez.
